A short psalm, of total trust. The arrogant rely on themselves and refuse to
submit to God, but the true believer is as dependent on God as a little child on one’s
parents. How dependent on God are we? Answering this in honesty, can lead us to
needed, deeper reflection. Reading Scripture and spiritual books, enable us to hear
God’s voice speaking to our personal needs and as caretakers, we can use all the help
we can get.
Quoting from “Urgings of the Heart” (pg148) Wilkie Au and Noreen Cannon, “Our
Christian faith reassures us that because God raised Jesus from the dead, reality is
ultimately, gracious and God can be trusted. Thus, Christians are called to trust in the
provident love of God and go with the flow of God’s grace, which can do infinitely more
than we can ask or imagine.” This passage is quoting Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to Him
who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine, by the power at work
within us, to Him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever
and ever. Amen.”
Gratefully, on a few occasions, I have had prayers answered better than I could
imagine. The Lord understands our heartfelt sorrows and silent apprehensions, plus our
highest dreams. Everything resonates with the heart of God. We gain confidence from
Psalm 72:12, “For He rescues the poor when they cry out, the oppressed who have no
one to help.” Sustain your trust to lift you through distress and enduring pain. The trials
we face are not meant to break us, but to strengthen our faith and trust in God. In every
weakness, lean on Him. As we embrace God’s strength it will fuel our spirit and enable
us to keep on keeping on. Difficulties may be there, but the focus of our faith needs to
remain on trusting the Lord, a moment at a time. Believe God has got whatever it is, we
are grappling with.
It says in 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we walk by faith, not by sight,” and is an
inspiration that God’s power is able to do far more than we can see ‘at this time.’ When
suffering it’s not uncommon to feel forsaken. God’s love is like that of a mother for her
infant child. He has compassion for us and is right by our side as confirmed in Isaiah
49:16, “See, upon the palms of My hands I have engraved you; your walls are ever
before Me.”
Let us pray for comfort and encouragement in trusting these words from Psalm
46:1-4, “God is our refuge and our strength an ever-present help in distress. Thus, we do not fear, though earth be shaken and mountains quake to the depths of the sea,
though its waters rage and foam and mountains totter at its surging.” May our trust
shine through all circumstances, expecting God’s miracles and hope, as our faith
increases!
