These words are said after the disciples, question why they could not heal a boy
with a demon. Faith is so very necessary. Whether it is your faith or the people who are
supporting and praying with you, the Lord says, “Nothing is impossible for you!” If our
faith is easily distracted from Jesus and forgetting who He is, it accomplishes little. The
importance of faith is elaborated in the numerous Scripture quotes about faith
throughout the New and Old Testaments. Staying immersed in God’s Word helps us
immensely.
We do our best to have a life-long attitude of confident reliance on the Word. To
have faith is to be certain – not of the here and now, the tangible things – but about
things of the future, the unseen realities. Hebrew 11:1, “Faith is the realization of what is
hoped for, and evidence of things not seen.” Real faith produces startling results, and
its presence has a vital impact on our lives and character. I have experienced this. Have
you?
As a caretaker, we are quite often filled with worry and concern. Let your faith
bring your loved ones to Jesus, just as the paralyzed man’s friends did. (Matthew 9:1-8)
Believe that Jesus sees your faith as you intercede for them, encourage them and even
offer to pray with them. God values your persistence and won’t turn a deaf ear. Even if
the loved-one has little faith, He sees your faith. So don’t give up! Even if you can’t
detect any change in that person’s life, you can still trust that your faith is making a
difference.
The Lord encourages us to focus on God’s faithfulness. (Again, there are many
examples of this in both Scriptures.) I quote one now, Lamentations 3:22-23, “The
Lord’s acts of mercy are not exhausted, His compassion is not spent; They are renewed
each morning – great is Your faithfulness!” Because God is faithful, we can recall how
many times we have been aided and our faith is strengthened. Whatever our mountain
or obstacle, we can be assured holding on to faith will bring ultimate rewards.
I quote from a book, I felt led to in the library, Savannah Guthrie, “Mostly What
God Does, “Going through deep crises, profound adversity – those are the make-or-
break moments for faith; they can be existential threats to your belief, or they can be
extraordinary teachers.” Many a time, I have said to the Lord, “Do I need to grow this
much!” Particularly, during the caretaking journey when we usually need more self-care,
it can seem overwhelming. These are the times we need to come to the light of the
Lord’s love for replenishment. Give Him our trust and faith one day at a time, knowing, He has got this! Believe Romans 8:28, “We know all things work for good for those who
love God….”
